After Eight Years, I'm Leaving Comcast

With a healthy dose of excitement, joy and sadness, I’m stepping down from my role in the communications department at Comcast. There’s been a lot of consideration on my part in coming to this decision, and to be honest, it feels a bit like jumping off a cliff: scary and thrilling.

Here at Comcast, I’ve had the opportunity to manage community relations, employee communications, media relations and social media channels. I've grown so much in the last eight years. I've had the chance to create new programs around social media, which I've really enjoyed. One of my favorite projects has been overseeing a 3,200-person, 18-site annual volunteer event. It's like planning 18 weddings in one day: crazy, but well worth it. I've been lucky to work with so many people who unselfishly choose to give back and volunteer together.

I would be remiss if I didn’t thank you all for the encouragement along the way. Friends I’ve had for years and new friends I’ve met through social media – you are all amazing. Also, thanks to Frank Eliason. It’s been so fun having you as a co-worker and I’ll miss working with you from across the U.S.

I'm looking forward to talking about my next "official" role soon. I am taking a few weeks off to work on planning Startup Weekend Vancouver, finalizing the next Voluntweetup, serving in a newly elected role with Social Media Club Seattle as the Vice Chair of the Board, and developing a project called Tech Mavens.

I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to find new ways to challenge myself. One of the goals I set for myself this year is to “thoughtfully jump off cliffs.” I’ve only jumped from one cliff in real life and it was into the Mississippi River. I’d seen about a dozen people jump from the exact spot before I closed my eyes and took a giant leap from a rock into the river about 30 feet below.

Before jumping, I peeked over the edge a few times and the only way I could do it was to just take a running approach and go for it.

So, here goes. :)
